Implicações da pandemia de Covid-19 na saúde mental dos professores da educação básica no Brasil: revisão integrativa da literatura

Abstract

This integrative review of the literature aims to understand the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of teachers working in Brazilian Basic Education. Predominantly, the health crisis has transformed the reality and daily life of schools worldwide. Brazil was no exception, and during this period, the school reality was marked by two significant historical moments: the suspension of school activities due to protective and preventive measures (isolation and social distancing), and the return to in-person teaching activities in the school environment. Both contexts represented a transformation of the daily life in the school community, consequently impacting the working conditions of teachers and directly leading to mental health problems for these professionals. Given the transformations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the school environment in the short and medium term cannot and should not be the same, considering that the entire school community has been directly affected by the novel coronavirus, including both students and teachers. For instance, there is a latent aggravation of discomfort related to behavioral aspects and emotional factors that can trigger more severe mental illness in individuals. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research aimed at further exploring the mental health of teachers in basic education, in order to understand the situation and promote measures in the school routine to alleviate work difficulties and implement health promotion actions that target the psychological consequences brought about by the pandemic.
